Mariah Carey was in studio again. Carey and her label, Columbia, were having problems. Her next album would be a greatest hits album with some new material. She wanted some of her favorite songs, but Columbia wanted just her number ones. The result was that Mariah didn’t like it all, they decided everything, including the title #1’s. One of the few new songs was a duet cover by Mariah Carey and Jermaine Dupri from Rainy Davis’ song Sweetheart.

Facts and Legacy

• It was scheduled for release as the second single from Life in 1472 in 1998 and as the first single from #1’s and was meant to be given full single treatment.
• Sony Music Entertainment retracted the commercial single at the last minute, and it was never officially released.
• Sweetheart was only given a commercial release in parts of Europe and Asia.
• The music video was recorded in Spain.

Charts and Sellings 

• Sweetheart was a top 20 hit in Germany and Switzerland.
• It has sold more than 100,000 copies around the world.
